Hon. Okon Uwah, former deputy speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, yesterday slumped and died during a campaign at Nkek, in Ukanafun, according to a report by New Telegraph.
Uwah, who is running for the Ukanafun State Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slumped at the residence of his in-law, one Godwin Udoko while holding a political consultation.
New Telegraph reported that an eyewitness at the event disclosed that tragedy struck when disagreement began over how to share the consultation money dropped by the aspirant.
As youths became unruly and surged to the venue, Obong Uwah, in panic tried to move away from the ensuing stampede but slumped and was trampled by the surging crowd.
Details of the casualty at the events remain scanty as at the time of filing this report.
