Stephen Akintoye, chief executive officer of Gileadbalm Group, said he received, with excitement, the news of Twitter expending its ads in Nigeria, as gesture is outstanding for small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to leverage in promoting their products and services.

Akintoye while fielding questions from Nigeria CommunicationsWeek said that at the moment, he cannot figure out the cons of Twitter ad entering Nigeria, rather a lot of benefits.

He said, “For example, I had to travel outside Nigeria to get Twitter ad so as to be able to do Twitter advert for clients who need it and it takes a lot of strategizing to be able to have your ads reach Nigerians.

“Even Now many of us travel outside Nigeria and open foreign account to be able to receive payment from other people through PayPal”.

Akintoye lamented that in spite the hypes of some international platforms to aid e-ecommerce, e-payments and digital marketing in Nigeria, there are still lots of barriers Nigerians and local businesses face in leveraging the profits of online business, particularly, “in an economy with high unemployment rate.

“About 25% unemployment can be wiped away through legitimate online businesses because big corporations in Nigeria do Twitter ad, only that they engage foreigners but with witted ad now in Nigeria, a lot of local company can take such jobs.

“Also SMEs can now use Twitter to promote their products and services well and this can result into massive increase in sales,” he said.

Twitter team on Wednesday expanded its self-service ads platform from 33 countries to over 200 countries and territories, including Nigeria.

According to Twitter's blog post, now, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) from any of the countries and territories can more effectively reach their target audiences on Twitter in 15 languages.

In addition, we’re happy to announce that there are now approximately 100,000 active advertisers on Twitter, including SMBs.

Since it launched Twitter Ads for SMBs over two years ago, the Company said they have heard from the clients about how they’ve used its creative, measurement, and targeting tools to drive website clicks or conversions, leads, and app installs or re-engagements.

"And, with objective-based campaigns, reports, and pricing, it’s easier than ever for SMBs to drive results on Twitter while only paying for the actions that align with their marketing objectives.‎

"Our suite of creative formats enables you to captivate your target audience at all points of relevance throughout the day.

Reach your target audience

"And, you can easily install conversion tracking to understand the full conversion impact of impressions and engagements from your Promoted Tweets campaigns," the post read.‎
