Tata Motors one of the leading automotive manufacturing companies in the world on Wednesday rolled out its 200 locally assembled vehicles in a bid to provide cost effective vehicles to Nigerian market.
Tata Motors ranked the fourth largest automotive manufacturing company in the world started its operation in Nigeria in 2006 as the Distribution Arm, Catering to the Sales, Service and Spares of all Commercial Vehicles from TATA Motors.
Mr. Suraj Prakash Auto Head, TML Business, Tata Nigeria, Speaking at the Unveiling, said that they have enjoyed the support of the national assembly since they began local assembly in 2017.
He noted that Tata Motors has a strong presence in Nigeria with investments exceeding USD 10 million, adding that Nigeria serves as a hub for its operations in Nigeria and the rest of West Africa.
Prakash added that their aim at Tata Motors is to provide quality vehicles to its consumers, ensure customer satisfaction, conservation of resources and protection of the environment.
Earlier, Mr. Anup Desai, Country Head, Tata Motors Limited, Nigeria & Congo, said that Tata Motors has always been value-driven, stressing that these values have continue to direct growth in their business.
He explained that every dollar earned by Tata Group 66 cents goes back to the host community as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Mr Waheed Odetoro, the Director, Industrial Infrastructure, National Automotive Design and Development Council, said that government would continue to give adequate support to the local car manufacturers in the country through patronages as directed by the Bureau of Public Procurement.
“Government will continue to give support and protect locally manufactured cars in Nigeria. In the past, what we had was policy somersault, but now government has put up a bill passed by National Assembly.
“The bill, the Automotive Development Plan Policy has been passed by the National Assembly waiting for the President assent. Once it is signed, the core operators in Nigeria will be protected.
“The country is appreciative to those who have faith in Nigeria because manufacturing is key to the economy of Nigeria.
“We need to transform the sector from import dependent to full scale manufacturing with realisation of technology transfer to indigenous experts in the industry,’’ he said
