StarTimes, digital terrestrial TV company, has said its investment in Nigeria has reached over $220m.
David Zhang, company’s new CEO of StarTimes Nigeria, who disclosed this yesterday at a media briefing, said it has provided employment to many Nigerians across the 36 states of the federation.
He spoke just as the Chinese Government has appointed StarTimes to implement the Access to digital satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages, with Nigeria getting 1,000 of those villages
“This project is almost completed and we are proud to be the contractors in all of Africa,” Zhang said.
According to him, the final phase of the project is ongoing as more than 800 villages have benefitted from the project.
The CEO who took over the management of StarTimes in Nigeria in January 2019 said all the villages would get access to TV free of charge.
He said the company has deepened its content offering in Nigeria especially with the recent business called StarTimes ON, an online video streaming service.
“It is the next generation of StarTimes streaming service. It introduces new features such as video on demand (VOD) live TV and lots of movies, sports and entertainment content all on the mobile app and free of charge,” he added. Zhang also disclosed that by July this year, StarTimes would roll out solar powered decoders for its subscribers to enjoy its content offering without worrying about electricity.
