St. Saviour’s Donates Educstional Facilities to LASG

As part of fulfilling the Board of Management’s Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), St. Saviour’s School, Ebute Metta, has donated educational facilities to the Lagos State Government to boost teaching and learning in public schools.

The facilities comprising eighty (80) pupils’ tables, one hundred and sixty (160) chairs, seven library shelves and twenty-four (24) library chairs, were for the use of Ijero Baptist Primary School under the Lagos Mainland Local Government Educational Authority.

The items received on behalf of Lagos State Government by the Head of (Education) Department, Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Mrs. Folashade Sanni, were second in the programme of the 64 year old St. Saviour’s supplying of infrastructure capacity in the primary education sector of the State.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr. Tom Ogboi, chairman, Board of Management, St. Saviour’s School, said while the School continues to maintain high standards of academic excellence and achievement, they are proud of the contributions towards the wider community.

Ogboi said that the Board of Management seeks opportunities to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibilities and sharing what they have with others, especially, public schools in the neighbourhood.

He said, “St. Saviour’s School Ebute Metta is a leading Christian Primary School in primary education in Nigeria and our pupils consistently achieve high standards in academic performance.  To maintain these standards, the Board of Management has invested in improving the learning environment, in terms of infrastructure and the provision of teaching and learning resources. Earlier this year, we gathered with our guests to commission our world-class swimming pool and the new administrative block.

“Last year, our school was the first school in Africa to introduce the LearnPad as an IT Teaching and Learning resource. We completed the building of a new teaching block in 2013 and we plan to upgrade our Nursery and provide a new sports complex in the near future.

“While we continue to maintain high standards of academic excellence and achievements as we celebrate our successes, St. Saviour’s School Ebute Metta is equally proud of our contribution to the wider community. As a Christian school, the culture and ethos that guides what we do and how we treat each other, is guided by the teachings of the Bible and Jesus Christ.

He deemed it a privilege to be in a position where the School can share with others, adding that in the process of selecting and deciding to adopt Ijero Baptist Primary School, the Board visited all schools in the locality to assess their needs before choosing the recipient.

Ogboi also reiterated the School’s decision to support Lagos State Government in capacity development of teachers.

On her part, Mrs. Ailsa Griffiths, head teacher, St. Saviour’s School Ebute Metta, said that the donations were part of processes to teaching the pupils the art of giving.

She said, “We want our pupils to learn about giving generously, sharing and loving others in the society. Even as Christmas approaches, some of the pupils are already gathering items to donate to less privileged children in the society”.

Griffiths promised that the School will not depart from the philosophy of helping others in need, especially for pupils in public schools to have a feel of improved learning conditions.

Mrs. Janet Anyanwu, assistant head teacher, Ijero Baptist Primary School, thanked the donors and pledged to put the infrastructure to improve the pupils’ learning experiences.
