Searching Scriptures Bible Quiz Enters 6th Year, Seeks More Participation

Searching Scriptures International has called on Christians to imbibe the culture of constant study of the bible for a better society.

Speaking at a press briefing to announce the 6th edition of Searching Scriptures Int’l, Nigeria, Bible quiz competition in Lagos, Mrs Ikeobi Joy , executive director, Searching Scriptures Int’l, Nigeria said that the time has come for Christians to be inspired to study and understand the word which is where our faith is anchored.

According to her, “the bible quiz is an annual competition open to individuals; from the ages 6 and above. The competition which has seen attendance of over 100 contestants each year and the number still growing, will receive application from more individuals this year.  This is a vision and we’re mandated to see that Christians get inspired to not just read the bible but study it, which is why we came up with this quiz competition which is also a way of catching them young to study the word and grow in the faith”.

“We believe that just as a child is made to start schooling at the age of five or six which is the standard age to begin Primary school and the time when the child’s assimilation process is well built for better understanding, the child should also be introduced to reading the bible amongst other books he or she is introduced or exposed to”.

Joy added that when a child begins at that age to study the bible, not just because of the material gains, then we’ll have thorough bred generation and a better society we can call our own, she said.

"Giving out prizes to winners like we've always done; having lots of prizes to be won: Ages 6-10 the winner will take home N20,000 + a phone and a certificate of participation. Ages 11-17 the winner N30,000 + a phone and a certificate of participation. The Adults are expected to study always so the winner goes home with N30,000 + a phone and a certificate of participation.

"The events for the day will include Bible recitation for ages 6-10, puzzle for ages 6-10 and 11-17 and then the quiz proper (objective and subjective) for all categories.

“The basket of blessing is where we get to show love and share with everyone who attends the event as we usher in the Christmas celebration. This is just our little way of motivating individuals to study the bible harder. Which is why we have our theme as: Study to show thyself approved unto God - 2 Timothy 2:15. The competition is scheduled for the 12th of December, 2015,” the ED said.

She added that the registration for this year’s competition is a little different from what it has been over the last 5 years. “Though we want to see a changed generation devoid of the usual internet geeks, but this year we encourage participants to register online while they make modest use of the internet because we have found out over the course of this competition that most of those who register for this competition have little or no computer knowledge. The participation fee as it has always been is, ages 6-10 N500, 11-17 N1,000 and Adults N1,500”. We hope many who will have the opportunity to read this will participate at this year's competition.
