NITDA Trains People with Disabilities on ICT Usage

National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commenced the second edition of ICT training for People with Disabilities.

The training which started today Monday is aimed at increasing the capacities of another 55 People with physical challenges.

Declaring the training opened, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, acting director general of the Agency,  said the objective of the training is to give the special people the sense of belonging in projects and programmes of the Agency.

He said, 'One of the core objectives of NITDA is to increase human capital development through ICT thereby creating jobs and diversifying the economy. “ 

He added, “We feel that we cannot be increasing the capacity of the able ones in our society and living the special people like you  and this make this training become imperative because in our own little way you are important part of  our society.

“We want you to take the advantage of the training to transform your life. I advise you to have a dream and vision and the government will provide the platform for you to excel.
‎
The Acting DG in a press statement signed‎ by Hadiza Umar (Mrs), head of public affairs , informed them that they should not see their physical impediments as challenges that may limit the level they can get to in life adding that ICT is not a magic and rocket science but a tool they could use to be independent of others and attain any level in life.

“We are not only training you on ICT alone, we are going to provide you with working tools and make you entrepreneurs and remember that with one ICT entrepreneur we are creating three employees.
‎
Sharing the testimony of the first edition of the training with the trainees, Dr, Olatunji stated that 25 out of the 50 people trained are now fully employed.
‎
He advised them to see the training as a platform to acquire ‘ICT knowledge with a parting gift of becoming independent after the training.
‎
‎“Olatunji urged them make use of the knowledge acquired pleaded with them never to sell their working tools because, ' we have mechanism in place to monitor your progress', he added.
‎
In his remark, the training consultant and the president Global Hope and Justice for the Less Privileged Incorporation, Mr. Paul Ihekwoaba praised NITDA for sponsoring the training programme for second successive year.
‎
He advised other government agencies and parastatals to emulate NITDA in empowering the physically challenged people in the society.
