Mtn Nigeria mobile telecommunication Operator, in collaboration with Sterling Bank, TD, Samsung and Payjoy have Unveiled device financing scheme aimed at boosting smart phone penetration in the country.

Mrs. Gozy Ijogun, Managing Director, TD Mobile, speaking at the event said that the aim of the partnership is to make smartphone acquisition easy and convenient for Nigerians through our Device Financing Scheme, also known as Pay Small Small.

She stated that with TD's agility, millions of Nigerians are assured of the constant availability of smartphones at multiple locations and MTN stores nationwide.

She added that collaboration will not only empower more Nigerians to own devices that were hitherto out of their reach, but will also boost smartphone penetration in Nigeria.

Ijogun said that MTN was able to come into the partnership because of its deep understanding of consumer needs and aspirations across all demographics.

According to her, “As you are all aware, MTN Nigeria is a dominant and leading player in the mobile telephony industry with well over 50 million subscribers and counting.

“Despite its enviable position in the market today, the brand continues to lead in product innovation and service delivery to customers nationwide.

“MTN is able to do this because of its deep understanding of consumer needs and aspirations across all demographics.

She explained that the revolutionary scheme will give customers opportunity to acquire a smartphone of their choice and pay conveniently over a six-month period with little or no stress.

She also lauded Sterling Bank for developing an affordable lending framework to provide loans to Nigerians to acquire smartphones.

She added that this easy and convenient way to pay will initially be deployed in 14 MTN stores nationwide and then expanded to cover other key retail outlets.

Abiodun Ajayi, Senior Manager, Data and Devices Marketing and Strategy Division, MTN Nigeria said that MTN believes that everyday deserves a connected life, hence the reason for the initiative.

He also stated that their aim is to bridge the affordability gap which is occasioned by poor access to credit, thereby making asset acquisition quite difficult for the average Nigerian.

He added that they want to bring more people to explore the digital world which most people in Nigeria and other emerging markets could not afford because they do not have access to a smart phone.

Ajayi said that this partnership with Samsung will avail customers the opportunity to pay as little as seven thousand down payment and they will walk away with a Samsung smartphone device.

He explained that Payjoy role in the partnership is to provide security to the device.

He added that customers will enjoy one year insurance cover for the device in case if it gets loss.
