Amosun to Attend ANCO National Business Retreat

Senaror Ib‎ikunle Amosun, the Ogun State Governor, is expected to declare open a national business retreat (NBR) put together by the Association of Nigerian Courier Operators (ANCO).

Mr. Toyin Adeojo,‎ publicity secretary of ANCO‎ told Nigeria CommunicationsWeek last night that the Retreat tagged "Abeokuta 2015" holds  between Friday 18th & Sunday 20th September, 2015 at INDICES SUITE & GARDEN, Onikolobo, Abeokuta,  Ogun State.

On the composition of delegates to the retreat, he said,  "Each members company will be represented by  two delegates".

Theme of the retreat is, "Courier business in Nigeria- Expanding the Frontiers".

‎Nigeria CommunicationsWeek learnt that ANCO members are not delighted by Government's insensitivity towards the plight of operators in the sector.

The Association recently sent a "Save Our Souls" (SoS) to President Muhammadu Buhari, decrying  the high mortality rate among courier companies in Nigeria.

Thus causing the once vibrant sector of the economy to retrogress and decapitulate.

ANCO regretted that out of the Two Hundred and Ninety Three (293) Courier Companies registered with the Courier Regulatory Department (CRD) of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), only Eighty (80)  can be said to be active or doing well.

Other challenges inhibiting the growth of the sector to include: lack of due regulation channel, inimical activities of Local Government employees on Nigerian roads, lack of understanding of the importance of courier operations, bad roads and failure of the Federal Government to understand the viability of the courier sector.

‎The demand for reforms in the postal sub-sector has been a recurring decimal in Nigeria’s policy formulation.

The department of Post and Telecommunication (P&T) was split during the regime of Major General Muhammadu Buhari in 1985.

From the split emerged the NITEL and NIPOST. Since the split, the telecommunications sector has undergone several reforms culminating in tremendous investment and success of the sector especially with the advent of the Global System for Mobile Telecommunications (GSM).
